Renewable Diesel HVO – Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil

Vectec Ltd has become a distributor of renewable diesel HVO 100

Renewable diesel (HVO100) is a second generation biofuel, a paraffinic diesel that is a 100% diesel replacement, unlike FAME biofuels which are mixed with regular diesels (B7 in the UK – 93% fossil diesel / 7% FAME)

HVO renewable fuel is currently imported from Neste in Scandinavia, where it is sold as a separate product on forecourts in Finland and Sweden.

HVO100 reduces net CO2 by 90% compared to regular diesel. For every 1,000 litre of regular diesel, 3.6 tonnes of greenhouse gases are produced. A similar volume of renewable diesel produces 195 kg of CO2.

This second generation biofuel offers a shelf life of up to 10 years compared with 6 months for B7 diesel.

Another attribute of this renewable fuel is its extremely low cloud point of down to -32 degrees centigrade which avoids the filter blockages in cold weather associated with FAME/diesel blends.

The main barrier to UK uptake is the cost as it is not produced in anything like the same volume as regular diesel. However, as HVO can be stored and dispensed utilising existing tanks and pumps without modification, it is significantly cheaper than converting to CNG, LNG, hydrogen or electric.

We hope to see the UK government become more supportive of these new, innovative products with financial incentives to switch over. If you wish to be part of this new future contact us for further details and prices.
